Let our crop planning tool help you choose the right crops to grow and make your farm more profitable.
Our mission is to provide strategic insights and knowledge to mid-sized farmers in the U.S. to help them improve their crop selection methods.
How it works
We have built a tool that empowers farmers to pick the crops that are best suited in their region in order to maximize profits. Using remote sensed satellite data, paired with historical USDA estimated crop yields, our tool is able to predict yields for a selection of row crops based on the farm location provided. Simultaneously, the tool also uses USDA crop costs, pricing and risk data to estimate the price that a farmer can expect to receive for a given crop at that location. By combining both of these pieces, we are then able to estimate expected revenue for a handful of row crops at a given farm location.

Yield predictions are provided using machine learning techniques that leverage satellite data obtained through spectral remote sensing of the farm area where you may be looking to grow a certain crop. The techniques adopted for predicting yields also take into account trends around crops grown within the region.
Price predictions are based on various market conditions and indices that help to ascertain the asking price that one may expect to get for the crop that you may be looking to grow.
Statistical information about crop yields and pricing in prior years are available in the tool to help you to see trends and gain some insight into some of the data that helped drive our price and yield predictions.

I found CropEconomics really useful for comparative purposes for making crop decisions. It's straight forward & easy to use!
There are a number of very difficult factors to predict (in terms of weather or natural disasters) beyond a very short time horizon, which likely exceeds the needed time to grow most crops. Overall, CropEconomics is a solid implementation.
